CTA and XRootD 5

Hello,

It was announced by the XRootD developers that the 4.x release series will reach end of life on September 1st 2021.

Is there any timeline for testing CTA with the latest stable XRooD 5 release?

Thanks,

George

Hi George, in terms of deployment of XRootD 5, we will follow the lead of the EOS team. (We don’t like to run ahead.) We are discussing this internally and will let you know once we have a definite schedule for migrating to XRootD 5.

Thanks for this Michael.

Hello,

As you probably know already EOS 5 is out
https://storage-ci.web.cern.ch/storage-ci/eos/diopside/tag/testing/el-7/x86_64/

Has CTA (and if so, which version) been tested with EOS5?

Thanks,

George

Hi George,

No, CTA has not yet been tested with EOS 5. We will certainly do so, in particular we’re interested in what it can offer for high availability, but we haven’t started on this yet.

Cheers,

Oliver.

Hi Oliver,

Thanks for the reply.

We would be happy to help with the testing; at the moment, both of our instances are in a ‘fluid’ state (being torn down and rebuilt many times) so I think it is as good time as ever to do this.

Is the latest CTA version, 4.2.2, a plausible candidate to test with the latest EOS 5?

Best,

George

Hi,

4.2.2 is fine as regards testing EOS5, but it has known issues and we will not deploy it, so I’d go for 4.1.1 (what we run in production) or master.

Oliver.

Hey guys,

Just checking to see if there have been any developments with regards to making CTA run with EOS5.

Thanks

Denis

Hi Denis,

We now have an EOS5 pipeline in CI. In principle CTA works with EOS5, but we have not yet deployed it in production.

The EOS team are in the process of migrating the LHC experiments to EOS5 for their analysis instances. When this is done, we will follow by upgrading the EOSCTA instances to EOS5. We expect this to be done within the next couple of months.

Cheers,

Michael

Thank you Michael

Regards,

Denis

Hi @denis.lujanski ,

just to inform you (and others) that at DESY we du run CTA 5.7.14, which is xtoord5 based build and haven’t observe any issues. I have to say, of course, that your deployment doesn’t require EOS as
we run dCache+CTA. However, the cta-frontend, which is used by EOS and cta-admin is running.

Best regards,
Tigran.

Thanks @tigran !!
We will be looking to upgrade soon.

Cheers,
Denis
